By chance, he stumbles onto evidence of a sexual predator living in his street, and, finally convinced that he knows who killed Thom, he takes the opportunity - but in his haste, his wife catches him destroying the evidence.When Christy uses Tasha and Eva to hold their relationship hostage, Ben turns to Jess for comfort. I record it usually but there where to many shows recording at once and it missed an episode. (The series is filmed in Brisbane.) It would have been nice to have had that clip included in the DVD, however the show still works without it.....just leaves you wanting more.......but then you won't know too much more because Season 2 goes into another direction with another storyline.

Season one of secrets and lies was by far the best and I wish they would have just followed the same cast for season two. Wear a seatbelt for when your OMG collides with your Holy **** Ben is unable to find either the suspect torch, or a decent lawyer, but instead continually does things that make his situation worse. While some of that may be cultural to some degree, as much crying as went on only one actress actually produced tears, the rest was dry sobbing. The series avoided sensationalism, which, sadly, the US version did not.
Overall I thought it was a great story, well-written and very suspenseful. In this nerve wracking plunge into the soul of suburbia, Ben is an everyday family man who finds the body of a four year old boy, and quickly becomes a murder suspect. This show is great and really kept my attention and I didn't anticipate what was coming at the end. Martin Henderson, often bare-chested to show off his chiseled upper torso, plays the lead, Ben Gundelach. I do, however, have to agree with the reviewers who felt the acting was a bit flat. This taut psychological thriller was the basis for the ABC-TV series of the same same. I thought the accents would be distracting, which is why I put this show off, but it was no bother at all. The ending, though plausible, is far-fetched. Jess responds by accusing him of sexual assault.

Deducting one star for the slow start; it's easy to see why so many of the low reviews only watched the first episode. Even though I gave it 4 stars based on the shallow acting, I still highly recommend this fairly short series. You know how all the movies you've watched after awhile just blend into a kind of memory soup after a few years? I have read that it was mentioned what happened to Ryan Phillippe's character in Season 2, but I don't believe the explanation was with the clip shown from the ABC's exclusive online website. I did not think I was going to end up binge-watching this in a week. Slow start, but the reward is the end after you sit through all 6 episodes. It definitely showed how intense the court of public opinion can be, even from within one's own family. As he tries to help Jess Murnane deal with her son's death, he comes to the horrifying realisation that his own daughter might have been involved.Ben hopes his life can return to normal - but the revelation that he was Thom's biological father brings tensions in the Gundelach home to a head. We're shown enough to be almost certain that he is innocent, but none of the evidence revealed makes a case against anyone else. It was contemporary, suspenseful, and heartbreaking. Yes, there are some plot holes, and the premise with Ben is naive, but Australia doesn't have the crime issues we here in the USA have. Wish Season 2 would become available for purchase on DVD.
